Hi, I'm Luca.
I’m Luca, known to many as “il Trubbio”. I have been an IFMGA/UIAGM mountain guide since 2011 and I live in Civezzano, in Trentino. When you book a trip, I am the guide who will be with you on the mountain.
The mountains have been my place since I was a child.
I was born in 1983 in a small town in central Italy. I've been going to the mountains since I was a kid: simple hikes first, then longer trips, until I discovered climbing.
I guide on rock, snow and glaciers throughout the year, from first experiences on technical terrain to longer and more demanding objectives.
I work with small groups, clear information and a pace suited to the people and the conditions of the day.
I never really stopped after that. I work to UIAGM/IFMGA standards, and risk management is the part of the job I take most seriously.
How I work on the mountain
Before suggesting a trip, I look at your experience, objectives and available time. From there we choose a realistic plan, whether it is a first via ferrata, a week of ski touring or a more technical alpine climb.
Small groups.
I work with small groups so I can follow each person, adjust the pace and change the plan when conditions require it.
Conditions first.
Weather, snowpack and objective hazards: I keep checking them, and if needed the plan changes.
Transparent planning.
I share all the key details in advance: required level, equipment, meeting points, huts, approximate timings and backup plans.
Learning by doing.
I involve you in navigation, movement and decisions, explaining what I am looking at and why the plan may change.
My home ranges and seasons
I guide mainly in the Dolomites and the Eastern Alps, especially in the areas I know best:
Dolomiti di Brenta, Sella, Marmolada and Pale di San Martino, rock, via ferratas, ski lines and big traverses.
Adamello-Presanella, classic multi-day ski touring and glacier mountaineering around the historical huts.
Ortles-Cevedale, high-altitude itineraries, snow and mixed routes, ski traverses and spring classics.
Other Alpine areas on request, including private programmes for established groups and people who have already been out with me.
Winter and spring are mainly for ski touring, freeride and avalanche safety training. In summer and autumn I focus on rock climbing, ridges, classic Dolomite traverses and via ferratas.
Risk, judgement and decision-making
Zero risk doesn't exist in mountaineering or on skis. My job is to weigh it properly, decide accordingly and tell you how things stand, even when the answer is no. I work to IFMGA standards and national guidelines, with seasons of work in the Dolomites and the neighbouring ranges behind me.
Terrain and snowpack assessment built into every ski day.
A clear plan A, B and C, with decision points and turnaround times.
Daily use of avalanche bulletins, weather models and local observations.
Practical guidance on ropework, movement technique and managing the trip.
When the trip allows it, we work on useful skills such as navigation, transceiver practice, glacier travel and efficient ropework, so you can use them again on future outings.
Is this right for my level?
I regularly guide complete beginners, intermediate mountaineers and experienced skiers and climbers. Each activity page explains the required experience, typical duration and technical difficulty.
If you're not sure where you fit, send me a short message with what you already do (grades, typical tours, fitness level) and what you'd like to achieve. I'll suggest realistic options and, if useful, a progression over several trips.

Assolutamente raccomandato

We had a marvellous experience of via ferrata in Rio Secco canyon, thanks to our guide Lucca. The path was challenging, but we always felt very secure. The landscape to the valley is amazing and the canyon offers many beautiful surprises. And, as a cherry on the top of the cake, Lucca took a lot of photos for us to keep as proofs of our bravery !
