Overview

This course is designed for climbers with prior ice climbing experience who wish to advance their skills in techniques such as lead climbing on moderate and steep terrain, building ice anchors, and managing multi-pitch climbing on frozen waterfalls.

 

The course also serves as ideal preparation for those aiming to tackle major north faces or more challenging alpine routes.

 

Who is it for?
This course is for those looking to perfect their ice climbing skills, achieving independence in lead climbing and anchor management. Prior experience in ice climbing on waterfalls is required.

Itinerary

Safety briefing for the day, gear preparation, and approach to the icefalls to begin the activity. Techniques for vertical terrain progression, icefall safety management, placing protections, lead belaying, setting up and managing anchors, creating Abalakov and rappelling.

Lead climbing progression on multi-pitch icefalls.

Technical Gear

  • ARTVA, shovel, and probe
  • Technical crampon-compatible boots
  • Ice climbing crampons *
  • Ice axes for piolet-traction *
  • Harness *
  • Helmet *
  • Ice screws
  • 4 large HMS carabiners
  • One Kevlar cord (3 m) and another (1.5 m)
  • Single rope or half ropes
  • Quickdraws
  • Petzl reverso or similar
  • 30L backpack with ice axe attachment

 

Technical Clothing and Other Essentials

  • Trekking poles
  • Headlamp
  • Waterproof mountaineering pants
  • Gore-Tex shell or equivalent
  • Technical fleece or sweatshirt
  • Down jacket
  • Lightweight gloves for climbing
  • Warm gloves for belaying
  • Hat or Buff
  • Sunglasses
  • Thermos for hot beverages
  • Energy snacks and food
  • High-protection sunscreen
  • Lip protection

 

Part of the technical material can be provided by the guide at a cost of 10 euros per item. It is recommended to check your equipment and report any shortages in advance to allow for better organization.

 

 

Costs

The fee includes:

  • Accompaniment by a mountain guide
  • Liability insurance

The fee does not include:

  • Transfers and guide expenses (including overnight stay)
  • Accommodation in the refuge and additional expenses
  • Rental of technical equipment (harness, ice axe, crampons, helmet)
  • Everything not specified in "Included in the fee"
